Affordable Housing Curriculum
One of the ways that the Bike and Build trip demonstrates its focus on the affordable housing cause (other than all the riders stopping occasionally and contributing to a build project) is through weekly meetings/discussions on the affordable housing issue. Each rider is responsible for researching a specific aspect of the issue, and each week a different theme will be covered. These meetings constitute a curriculum of sorts, educating the riders and better preparing them to discuss affordable housing with others.
I will be presenting in the second week of the trip, and that week's theme is 'History of Housing Practices in the United States', with my particular assignment being 'History from Industrial Revolution through the Great Depression'.
Additionally, each rider is assigned two towns along the route that they must research (mostly housing and wage statistics). My towns are Linville Falls and Asheville, both in North Carolina.
Eventually I will get this research done, and once I do I'll probably post my notes here.
