Today's Lesson: Be Prepared

When I was younger I was a cub scout (and a boy scout for a couple of months), and the motto that they espoused was 'Be Prepared'. This can also be interpreted as 'Think about how things are going to get screwed up, and plan accordingly.'

Somewhere between then and now this message got lost. Why else would I go riding without a bike pump or any spare tubes? Then, when a flat happens, such as on this morning's ride, I am up a proverbial creek without a proverbial paddle.

I had thought enough ahead to bring a cell phone and my CMU ID with me. I was able to call my friend Gregg to come pick me up, my back-up plan being to catch a bus (one of the ones with a bike rack).

*This post has been dedicated to any Pittsburgher who has decided it's a good idea to leave broken beer bottles by the side of the road.*
