Bike & Build is a 501(c)(3) independent nonprofit organization. They work with young adults to produce cross-country fundraising cycling trips, open to participants ages 18-25. The proceeds from our events are disbursed to affordable housing organizations to underwrite projects chiefly planned and executed by young adults in this age group.
By virtue of completing a long-distance bike tour, riders will assist and enable affordable housing efforts throughout the nation. As they travel they'll stop to talk with people about their summer, our program, and the housing landscape. They'll take breaks to work on construction sites and give town-hall style presentations to people throughout the country. They'll review, evaluate, and choose to fund grant proposals our organization receives. They'll find that traveling by bicycle - especially on a trip of this magnitude - is a great was to promote the housing cause, and they'll receive publicity and attention that they would not have seen off of their bikes.
Bike & Build groups contribute over 200 labor hours at each site that they work on. With the manpower and energy of our participants - conditioned from many miles on their bikes - riders see how much of a difference they could make for a project in just one day.
